These Socks Don’t Match but That’s OK
In the Liam series…
My four-year old grandson Liam
dressed himself today
The first thing he said when he entered the hallway from his room:
“These socks don’t match, but that’s ok”
You know Liam — it is ok, it really, really is
Thank you for that touch of wisdom to start off this day
I needed that more than you could know
How much fretting and energy we put into pleasing…
into following the rules and staying all in line
Today let’s just be us, let’s just be free
Let’s play in the dirt when I could be mowing or cleaning the garage
Let’s hike in the woods when I could be
fine-tuning the budget or washing the car
and yes you can bring your dinosaurs — why not
Let me wear my favorite sweatshirt
even though it has that little bleach spot
Today let’s not worry about what we should be doing
Or about what others may think…
These socks don’t match, but that’s ok
